Simple Envelopes is a budgeting tool. Everyone has heard of the envelope technique for budgeting. When you get paid you put some cash in an envelope, say for FOOD. Then when you go out to eat, you would take some cash out of the envelope. The problem is, it is hard to know how much money you have in the envelope quickly. You could balance the envelope like a checkbook, but that is tedious.
Most men don’t carry anything other than a wallet, which doesn't do well with envelopes. A great technique that can be used is just carry cash with you and save your receipts. Then you need to go through them all and update the envelopes.
Simple Envelopes does this for you. You create an envelope and either Deposit or Withdraw funds. There isn't any logging in to the app, or into some fancy cloud based service. You don’t need to know how when you will be filling the envelope back up, or how fast you’re depleting your funds. You just want to put money in and take money out. Simple.

The idea itself comes from a script Liman wrote over ten years ago with his cousin, the writer John Hamburg , Dan Mazeau , Simon Kinberg and most recently Ken Nolan .
